SSC CGL Tier 2 Preparation Strategy – The Final Lap

Tier 2 is the deciding stage of SSC CGL. With the new pattern, every section is important, including Computer Knowledge and Typing. Here is a section-wise strategy to maximize your score.

Exam Pattern Recap

Section Subject Questions Marks
Section I Math + Reasoning 30 + 30 = 60 180
Section II English + GK 45 + 25 = 70 210
Section III Computer 20 60 (Qualifying)

Section I: Math & Reasoning (Speed & Accuracy)

This section is high-scoring. Aim for 160+ out of 180.

  • Math: Focus on Advanced Math (Geometry, Mensuration, Algebra, Trigo) and Probability/Statistics (new topics). Practice calculation speed.
  • Reasoning: Don't ignore it. Practice statement-assumption, course of action, and puzzle-based questions which are trickier in Tier 2.

Section II: English & GK (The Rank Decider)

English has the highest weightage (135 marks).

  • English: Focus heavily on Reading Comprehension (3-4 passages), Cloze Test, and PQRS. Grammar and Vocab should be polished.
  • GK: It's unpredictable but crucial. Revise Current Affairs of last 1 year and static GK topics. Even 40-50 marks here is a good score.

Section III: Computer Knowledge (Don't Fail Here!)

Many toppers fail because they ignore Computer. It is qualifying but mandatory.

  • Topics: MS Office (Word, Excel, PPT shortcuts), Internet, Email, Networking, Hardware/Software basics.
  • Strategy: Read a thin PDF book or watch marathon videos. Practice 500 MCQs.

Mock Test Strategy for Tier 2

  • Take full-length mocks at the exam time (e.g., 9 AM to 11:15 AM).
  • Sit for the Typing Test immediately after the mock to build stamina.
  • Analyze every single error.
