SSC Reasoning Strategy: How to Score 50/50 in CGL & CHSL
SSC Reasoning Strategy for Full Marks (50/50)
General Intelligence & Reasoning is considered the most scoring section in SSC exams. With the right approach, you can easily score 45-50 marks in 12-15 minutes. This saves time for Math and English. Here is a topic-wise strategy to master Reasoning.
Scoring Chapters (Verbal Reasoning)
These topics appear frequently and are easy to master:
- Analogy & Classification: Practice word, number, and letter-based analogies. Focus on squares, cubes, and prime numbers.
- Coding-Decoding: Learn the position of alphabets (A=1, Z=26) and opposite pairs (A-Z, B-Y).
- Series (Number & Alphabet): Look for patterns like difference, multiplication, or mixed series.
- Syllogism: Use the Venn Diagram method for 100% accuracy.
- Blood Relations: Draw family trees to solve complex relation puzzles.
- Direction Sense: Draw a simple compass diagram while reading the question.
Non-Verbal Reasoning (Visual)
These questions test your visual observation skills:
- Mirror & Water Images: Visualize the inversion. Practice drawing them.
- Paper Folding & Cutting: Use the elimination method for options.
- Embedded Figures: Look closely at the details.
- Figure Series: Observe the rotation (clockwise/anti-clockwise) and movement of elements.
How to Increase Accuracy
- Read Carefully: Don't miss words like "not" or "incorrect".
- Option Elimination: Often, you can eliminate 2 options instantly. This increases your probability of being right.
- Skip Tricky Questions: If a number series logic doesn't strike in 30 seconds, skip it and come back later. Don't let your ego hurt your time management.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Assuming logic without checking all options.
- Spending more than 1 minute on a single question.
- Ignoring non-verbal reasoning practice.
- Not learning squares (1-30) and cubes (1-15).
Daily Practice Routine
Reasoning doesn't need hours of study. Just 45 minutes of daily practice is enough.
- Solve 1 sectional mock test (25 questions) daily.
- Analyze the questions you got wrong.
- Practice 50 questions of a specific topic on weekends.
